Course Description:

This course taught strategies and activities to improve learning readiness and literacy skills in preschool age students. The program consists of fun activities for developing motor skills, balance and coordination, eye-hand coordination and much more. Once these skills are in place, children have the necessary tools to be able to attend and learn. This session will provide fun, hands-on, brain stimulating activities. Come learn how your children can be S.M.A.R.T. children!

This course is applicable to:

Teachers, special educators, and therapists working with preschool age students.

Time Ordered Agenda

  • 15 minutes: Introduction to the program and discover the correlation between the brain and movement

  • 30 minutes: Discuss three neurologically sound principles that have an impact on developing learning readiness skills/maturing the brain and body

  • 30 minutes: Apply the principle of movement anchoring learning by discussing several purposeful, specific movements to use in any learning environment with students of all abilities

  • 45 minutes: Learn and experience first hand developmental movements that can be done in short spurts of time with children to enhance neuro-physiological connections while increasing focus and attention

  • 45 minutes: Build the correlation between foundational movements and literacy instruction by discussing input-rich instructional strategy and classroom activities

  • 15 minutes: Question and Answer Session

Learning Outcomes

  • Define learning readiness and describe its core components

  • Summarize three variables educators should consider when strengthening neurological function in students

  • Apply five movement based strategies to increase focus and attention in the learning environment

  • Describe two movement based strategies that can be applied to literacy instruction for ELLs

Presenter Biography:

Jessica Kittleson, B.S.

Jessica Kittleson is a kindergarten teacher from Minneapolis, Minnesota who holds her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She began her journey as a speaker with A Chance To Grow in 2012 after implementing the agency's brain-based movement program, S.M.A.R.T., in her classroom for four years. During her years of teaching, she implemented S.M.A.R.T. both at the Pre-K and elementary level. Jessica joined the staff at A Chance To Grow full-time as the Assistant Director of the teacher training institute from 2014-2018. She has since returned to the classroom to share her amazing talents and fulfill her passion for teaching. Jessica is a firm believer in the power movement plays in the educational process and has a true passion sharing this with others.

Satisfactory completion of the course and the earning of credit is based on your full attendance at both sessions of this LIVE online webinar, completing a brief learning self-assessment and program evaluation form and requesting a certificate of completion from [email protected]. It may take up to 7 days for you to recieve your certificate.

Refund Policy for LIVE courses:

If program is cancelled or rescheduled by our organization:

TheraSmart reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a course due to extenuating circumstances, inclement weather, speaker availability, or insufficient registration. You will be notified via email or phone at least 24 hours before the start of the class. Participants will be offered an opportunity to reschedule or a full refund for registration and course fee(s) will be issued to registrants (not to include travel or other costs). TheraSmart liability is limited to the tuition fee only.

If registrant cancels:

A full refund, less a 25% administrative fee will be provided if your refund request is received in writing (by mail or email) at least 14 days prior to the course start date. No refunds will be made after the 14 day deadline. Tuition will be forfeited for no-show or cancellations.

Complaint Policy:

We do our best to address your concerns. Any complaints or grievances must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Please include the name, address, phone number, email, profession of person submitting the complaint or grievance, the title of the CE course, as well as the exact nature of the complaint/grievance. The CEA (continuing education administrator) will make an effort to resolve the complaint to the satisfaction of the complainant. This may include issuance of a credit for another CE course or other action suitable to all parties.
