Course Description:

This course provides techniques clinicians can use to model effective communication in therapy sessions and strategies to assist children with navigating the often confusing world of emotions, giving them the skills they need to manage their own feelings.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course you will be able to :

  • Analyze the reasons behind disconnected communication with students

  • Apply strategies to help students maintain calm through active listening skills

  • Evaluate children's emotional states and respond appropriately

  • Demonstrate ways to help children move through meltdowns and tantrums

Time Ordered Agenda

  • 15 minutes: Introduction

  • 15 minutes: Analyze the reasons behind disconnected communication with students

  • 30 minutes: Apply strategies to help students maintain calm through active listening skills

  • 15 minutes: Evaluate children's emotional states and respond appropriately

  • 15 minutes: Demonstrate ways to help children move through meltdowns and tantrums

Presenter Biography:

Adina Soclof, M.A., CCC-SLP

Adina Soclof, M.S, CCC-SLP Adina Soclof, MS, CCC-SLP, a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, received her master’s degree from Hunter College in New York in Communication Sciences. She worked as a Speech Pathologist in preschools for the developmentally disabled in the New York school system before staying home full time with her family. She reentered the workforce as a Parent Educator for Bellefaire Jewish Children’s Bureau facilitating “How to Talk so Kids will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk,” and “Siblings Without Rivalry” workshops and presentations based on “Raising Your Spirited Child.” Adina also runs workshops based on "How to Talk so Kids can Learn: At Home and at School" for teachers and other mental health professionals. She has been featured at numerous non-profit organizations and private schools in Cleveland.. She lives with her husband and four lively children in Cleveland, Ohio.
